This Orange Creamsicle Chia Pudding is a fun, citrusy twist on a classic Coconut Chia Pudding. It’s made with fresh oranges and creamy coconut milk and is naturally sweetened with maple syrup. Similar to this Pineapple Chia Pudding and this Mango Chia Pudding, this recipe has a vibrant taste and nourishing ingredients.

As a busy mom, I’m always looking for simple make-ahead recipes that feel like a treat but are packed with healthy ingredients, and this one fits the bill perfectly!

Plus, I’ve tested a variety of oranges and protein-boosted versions to give you the most flavourful, customizable result!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Refreshing citrus flavour – Blending whole oranges gives it a fresh, zesty taste that’s hard to beat. If you can’t get enough citrus also try my Lemon Chia Pudding.
  • Creamy & dairy-free – Thanks to coconut milk, this pudding is thick, luscious, and plant-based.
  • Meal prep friendly – Just blend, mix, and chill for at least 2 hours or overnight. Perfect to meal prep for the week along with a batch of Lemon Bliss Balls!
  • Easy to boost protein – Add cottage cheese or Greek yogurt for a more filling version.

Key Ingredients

Ingredients for orange chia pudding.
  • Oranges: You can use navel oranges, Cara Cara oranges (for a sweeter, pink-orange tone), blood oranges (for a deeper hue) or mandarins (for a rich orange tone). Remove seeds and most of the pith for best texture. Use any leftover oranges to make an Orange Creamsicle Smoothie!
  • Coconut milk: Full-fat canned coconut milk gives the pudding its creamy consistency. Use just the thick top portion for an ultra-rich version.

Optional Add-In for a Protein Boost:

  • Add 1/4–1/2 cup of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese to the blended base. It blends smoothly and bumps up the protein per serving. Also try this Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse for a high-protein treat!

Jess’s Tips

  • Use vibrant oranges – Cara Cara, navel oranges, mandarines or blood oranges give the deepest colour! If you have extra oranges you can turn them into orange carrot and ginger juice.
  • Blend well – Make sure the orange mixture is smooth before mixing with chia seeds.
  • Stir after 5 minutes – Stir once after the first 5 minutes to prevent clumping before chilling in the fridge.
  • Chill overnight – The chia pudding needs to chill for a minimum of 2 hours, but is best when chilled overnight.
  • Serve with toppings – Add coconut flakes, healthy chocolate granola, or fresh orange slices for extra texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use bottled orange juice instead of fresh oranges?

Fresh oranges are best for flavour and colour. Bottled juice tends to be more acidic and less vibrant. That being said, if needed you can use bottled orange juice (try to get freshly squeezed if possible!)

How do I get a more vibrant orange colour?

Use mandarins or Cara Cara oranges, add a pinch of turmeric, or a splash of carrot juice.

Description

This Orange Creamsicle Chia Pudding is made with simple ingredients and tastes like the nostalgic treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups orange segments (navel, cara cara, madarines, blood oranges all work well)
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 1/2 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds

Instructions

  1. Add the orange segments, orange zest, coconut milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
  2. Pour the blended mixture into a mixing bowl or jar and whisk in the chia seeds until evenly combined.
  3. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes, then stir again to prevent the chia seeds from clumping.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  5. Give the pudding a stir before serving. Enjoy as is, or top with fresh orange slices, coconut flakes, or granola.

Notes

  • Cara Cara, navel, mandarins, or blood oranges give the pudding a rich orange colour.
  • Substitute for freshly squeezed orange juice if needed.
  • Blend the orange mixture well before adding chia seeds.
  • For best texture, let the pudding sit in the fridge overnight.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 4 days.

I really love your jars as well, Jess. Do they have lids, and can you please share where you purchased them? I’ve been using half pint canning jars with lids. They work fine and I like having lids to keep things fresh. But your jars are more elegant. Thanks so much!
