There’s nothing like the delicious flavour of an orange creamsicle. (or homemade raspberry creamsicles!) But instead of grabbing a sugar-packed popsicle, this Orange Creamsicle Smoothie lets you enjoy that same refreshing taste in a more nourishing way.

This smoothie is made with real oranges, protein-rich Greek yogurt, and a splash of vanilla to give it that classic nostalgic creamsicle taste. As a recipe developer with over 10 years of experience in plant-forward cooking, I love finding easy ways to turn nostalgic flavours into healthy everyday recipes my whole family will enjoy. This smoothie is quick, refreshing, and one of my go-to morning blends along with my Green Protein Smoothie and Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Tastes like a creamsicle: Naturally sweet and citrusy with a creamy vanilla finish.
  • Ready in 5 minutes: Just toss everything in the blender and you’re done!
  • Protein-packed: Greek yogurt gives this smoothie a nice boost of protein. For more protein-packed smoothies try this Berry Protein Smoothie.
  • Customizable: this smoothie is easy to customize with ingredients like chia seeds, protein powder or fruits. Adding a teaspoon of chia seeds to smoothies like this acai berry smoothie is one of my favourite ways to use chia seeds.

Key Ingredients

Almond milk, Orange, banana, yogurt and vanilla laid out on a white board
  • Banana: Frozen banana will result in a much creamier smoothie than using fresh banana. I always buy and freeze bananas to have on hand for smoothies.
  • Orange: Navel oranges are my favourite type of orange to use in this smoothie, but any type of orange will work! Use any leftover oranges to make a batch of Carrot Orange and Ginger Juice.
  • Yogurt: you can use any type of yogurt you like. Regular or dairy-free if needed. I personally prefer greek yogurt in this smoothie with gives it that sweet and tangy taste!

Recipe Variations

  • Add more protein: Add an extra boost of protein with your favourite vanilla protein powder.
  • Make it without banana: substitute the banana in this smoothie for 1/2 cup of frozen mango cubes. For another banana-free smoothie you might also like this Strawberry Mango Smoothie.
  • Dairy-free: Use dairy-free yogurt for full-fat coconut milk for a dairy-free version that is vegan friendly.

Jess’s Tips

  • Use a ripe frozen banana: Frozen banana is the key to a creamy thick texture. Keep your fresh bananas to make a Breakfast Banana Split and use frozen bananas for this smoothie.
  • Peel the orange well: Remove as much pith (the white stuff) as possible to keep the smoothie from tasting bitter.
  • Add liquids first: Add the almond milk and soft ingredients to the blender first, followed by frozen ingredients for easy blending.
  • Adjust thickness: Add more almond milk to thin it out or a few ice cubes for a thicker texture.
  • Serve immediately: The texture is best right after blending!
